DREAMIN'
By Marianne Barlow © 1998

Monday morning, crack of dawn, a week of rain and the sun now yawns in the sky
Another day gone by
Found my strength in dreaming, found my weakness too
I found someone I could touch, when I found you

Dreaming, Dreaming

Monday morning, rise and shine, I’ll be yours, if you’ll be mine always
Through the darkest days.
Guess you’ve found a dreamer, master of the art,
Only hope that I’m the one who steals your heart

Dreaming, Dreaming

DZUNAKWA
(The Wild Woman of the Woods)

By Marianne Barlow © 2005

I had a dream last night I heard a thousand voices strong
I had a vision and the vision carried me along
I had a memory of a place that I had never seen
I heard a story and the story lived inside my dream

Hey, yana hey yana eh ha ha

I saw the travellers who disappeared in Neptune’s Hell
I saw a woman who devoured all her sisters twelve
I saw the children who believed those stories to be true
I had a vision and the vision led me back to you

Hey, yana hey yana eh ha ha

Ain’t got no friends around me, ain’t got no magic spell
Ain’t got no language you know
And if you say you found me, those stories you may tell
Ain’t got nowhere to go

I walked along the shore and gathered up those shells and bones
I saw the faces of the women carved into the stone
I walked into the woods and saw the lakes and mountains high
I heard the whispers of your story drifting to the sky

Hey, yana hey yana eh ha ha

EVEN THE BLUE
By Marianne Barlow © 2004

What did you think we would find when we went out of our minds?
What did you think you would see when you tunneled into me?
What did you think would come true, was it the red, the orange, the green or the blue?
What did you think would stay when you saw it start to fade away?

Well it all will fade away
It all will fade to grey
It all will fade away
Even the blue

Even the blue fades away when there’s nothing left to say,
Even the sun fades from sight in the middle of the night,
Even the darkness subsides when it finds there’s nothing left to hide
Even the blue can’t stay, did you see it start to fade away?

Well it all will fade away
It all will fade to grey
It all will fade away
Even the blue

When we open up our eyes to fight the shadows
We will find to our surprise, the things that matter

Suddenly I make believe that the world is much more free
Suddenly I think we’ll find our place in the great design
Suddenly I see the blue somehow shining clear and bright and true
Suddenly I can stay, even if it starts to fade away

‘Cause it all will fade away
It all will fade to grey
It all will fade away
Even the blue

CALIFORNIA FEBRUARY
By Marianne Barlow © 1997

California February, basking in the springtime sunshine,
Pushing onward down the highway, San Jose to Humboldt Bay
Dance the blue sky, God in heaven breathes her spirit down today
Dance the green hills, dance the vineyards, taste the sweetest wine of life.

Gorgeous morning, kiss the sunshine, gorgeous glowing afternoon,
Freedom speaks a flowing language, play with me in nature’s room
Dance the river, winding softly through the ancient redwood trees
Lift your face to feel the spirit, taste the blossom breeze

Though the winter may return, bringing darker days
Memories of February color all the greys.

Every morning in the summer, wake to find the beauty ’round you
Fill your heart and mind with wonder, paradise has found you
Dance with reckless, wild abandon, till the sunlight fades and soon
In the coolness of the evening, dance beneath the moon

Though the winter may return, bringing darker days
Memories of February color all the greys.

MY RIGHT BREAST
By Marianne Barlow © 2004

I met a girl with a guitar, who said she could go far without her right breast
When she was playing with a smile it would twiddle with the dial
And make a right mess
Remember at the Superbowl, Janet’s nipple stole the show, like a vandal
And Justin Timberlake swore that it was a mistake, what a scandal

You know the Amazons, they didn’t need ‘em
Didn’t have babies or just didn’t feed ‘em
Burned ‘em off just to help the arrows fly

My right breast (You’ll never get another)
My right breast (Go and ask your mother)
My right breast (If you lose her you will miss her)
My right breast (Go and ask your sister)

I met a woman at a school, who always kept her cool ‘cept for her right breast
When it decided to go, she had to take it slow, but she could fight this
And if you want to find out what chemotherapy’s about, you can ask her
What she went through was hell, she will happily tell you, it’s a bastard

She says that milk and cheese and ice cream can cause it
HRT can leave a deadly deposit
Find out now before you have to say goodbye!

My right breast (You’d better believe it) (Love it or leave it)
My right breast (Don’t wanna lose it) (Misuse or abuse it)
My right breast (Go and get a mammogram) (Always do your self-exam)
My right breast (Everybody’s having fun) (Don’t forget the other one!)

WOOD NYMPH
By Marianne Barlow © 1997

Feels like I have known you forever, spirit of the wood
You breathed your magic into my existence, like no other could
You’ll remain with me in the forest, ages yet untold
When summer’s youth matures into autumn shall the truth unfold

You and I sing harmony everywhere we go,
To the heartbeat of the earth, while the west winds blow

Sky above us, roots at our feet, greenest flags unfurled
Rainbow flowers opened around us, the ball gown of the world
In this moment, everything’s magic, the rocks, the clouds, the trees
We left our sorrow somewhere behind us on a summer’s breeze.

You and I sing harmony everywhere we go,
To the heartbeat of the earth, while the west winds blow
You and I sing harmony on this magic night
To the rhythm of the earth while our dreams take flight

ALLIE'S LONDON SONG
By Marianne Barlow © 2000

One o’clock in the morning I gotta get a message to you,
Gotta find a way to touch you across this sea of blue and
Cleopatra’s here beside me, keeping your place warm until you
Find a way to get back to me across this sea of blue and

I know, I know it’s gonna be all right

Looking up at the stars reminds me how you put your arms around me
Never thought we’d fall in love and now I’m so glad you found me
One o’clock in the morning I make a song that fills the sky and
Calling out to the Northern Star that’s looking down on you and I and

I know, I know it’s gonna be all right

Sometimes it seems like we are swimming against the river
And we wonder how we’ll make it through
But don’t you worry my love, this heart has seen forever,
And I only want to spend it with you

One o’clock in the morning I gotta get to you, gotta find a way, far across the sea
You were here, now you’re gone and I’m calling to you in the stars, are you there?
And you can find me here, I’ll be here, I’ll be here, waiting for you

I know, I know it’s gonna be all right
